A runt pig name Wilbur is born and is taken care of by the farmers daughter named Fern. When Wilbur becomes to big to live in Ferns room she is placed on her uncles farm. Wilbur is lonely and becomes friend with a spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur thinks he will be chosen spring pig, Charlotte must find a way to save his life. A lapbook or jacket book would be be great activities for this book. A choice board is another way to get students involved in the book. The board is divided into different section and the students get to choose which three activities they would like to complete.

When Nicki drops his white mitten in the snow, he goes on without realizing that it is missing. One by one, woodland animals find it and crawl in; first, a curious mole, then a rabbit, a badger and others, each one larger than the last. Finally, a big brown bear is followed in by a tiny brown mouse. A story retell box is a way to show the students comprehension of the story. The box contains figures of  the mitten, the little boy, and the animals that crawl into the mitten. As the students retell the story to the teacher or other students they use the figures to reenact the story.

The cows on Farmer Brown's farm are typing again. Duck can't wait to show everyone their latest note.Duck's not telling, but if you follow the alphabet one letter at a time, you'll find out. This book is a great resource for recognizing letters and alphabetical order. During the story the duck uses things found on a farm to accompany the letters of the alphabet.An activity for the book could be a Letter Find. The student will have a list of the alphabet and will look around the classroom to find words that begin with the same letter. Student can write or draw their answer.

Llama Llama is learning lots of new things at school and making many friends. But when Gilroy Goat starts teasing him and some of their classmates, Llama Llama isn't sure what to do. And then he remembers what his teacher told him: Walk away and tell someone. It works! This story is a way to talk about bullying. A way for children to practice their reading and fluency skills is by have a reading theater. The story can be broken down into different parts for the students. The students can work in small groups or as a whole class.

Rascal is only a baby when young Sterling brings him home. He and the mischievous raccoon are best friends for a perfect year of adventure. Since this is a chapter book, I think good activities for this book could include a Lapbook or a Jacket Book. This book could also could be a good choice for literature circles.

An African American boy and his family rarely have enough to eat. Each night, the boy's father takes their dog, Sounder, out to look for food. The man grows more desperate by the day. When food suddenly appears on the table one morning, it seems like a blessing. But the sheriff and his deputies are not far behind. The ever-loyal Sounder remains determined to help the family he loves as hard times bear down. A Book Jacket project is a great way to entice other students to read a book. Using this activity allows students to entice other readers by showing them highlights by using words and pictures but being careful to not give away the entire plot.

When Jessica tries to read aloud in class, she stumbles over the words and everyone laughs. Now the upcoming Reading Theater day has her worried. With the help of her family, and some practice with her dog, Wiggles, Jessica faces her reading worries. This book my help students that has the same worries as Jessica and how she overcame her worries. As the class reads this story the students could put on their own reading theater. The reading content could consist of a book reading groups are reading or a short script.

Dick and Sally are stuck in the house with nothing to do on a could and wet day. Until a giant cat in a hat shows up, transforming the day into an adventure and almost wrecking the house in the process. A STEM activity to use with this book would be for students to see how many "hat" they could stack on top of one another. Using cups and construction paper.

Sam I am is trying to convince another character to try green eggs and ham. This book is great to use with rhyming words. A hands on activity for students would be to use green plastic Easter eggs and write a rhyming words from the story on both the top and bottom piece of the egg. Separate the eggs into a container and the students have to find the rhyming words and connect the egg together. Students can be allowed to explore rhyming words and create their own eggs. This would be great to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.

 Tacky's an odd penguin who likes to do splashy cannonballs and greet his companions with a loud “What's happening?” Tacky's fellow penguins find somewhat bothersome until his odd behaviors save the day. I love how this book displays how Tacky stays unique to his own personality and does not change because of other penguins. Going along with the unique theme the students could complete a what makes me unique.... activity. This activity allows students to express to others what they thinks makes them unique and special through writing or drawing pictures. This activity can be presented in front of the class or displayed for others to see.

Tacky the Penguin is back, this time trying to compete with Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect in the iceberg-wide Penguin Cheering Contest. While reading this book the students could look for words that include diagraphs. Using this book in shared reading time helps to incorporate the phonics lesson about diagraphs. It book can help introduce a science study about penguins. The content will be spread out over several subject areas.

Tina loves her brand-new socks so much that she's never, ever going to take them off. But when her wonderful socks start to get smelly, her classmates must take action. For students to show comprehension of the story they can complete a true/false activity. The students will read the statements and decide if they are true or false based on the story. A fun science activity would be for students to sort items into a good or bad column based on the items smell/order.

Sarah Jane Hartwell is hiding under her covers and does not want to go to school. Mr. Hartwell reminds her how much she liked her other school and asks her to think of all the new friends she'll meet. Mr. Hartwell finally gets Sarah to stumble out of bed and get into the car. At school, the principal welcomes her and takes her to the classroom where she is introduced as "Mrs. Sarah Jane Hartwell," the new teacher. This book is great to read on the first day of school. It shows the students that even the teacher is nervous about the first day of school. A first day jitters bulletin board would be a great activity to accompany this book. As students arrive on the first day of school have the students write on a note card something they are nervous or excited about for the new school year or the first day of school. Before reading the story the teacher can anonymously read the students responses aloud to the whole class. After the story is read and the students find out it was the teacher who was so nervous about the first day of school, the teacher could then reveal something she is nervous about. This activity shows the students everyone can be nervous about the first day of school even the teacher.

Frog and Toad return with five new adventures. They get organized to make a list of things that need to get done, they make cookies, they work hard to make their flowers grow in the garden, Toad showed appreciation for his best friend after a scary dream, and they learned they could be brave in the face of danger.

Language Arts Activities: Students could write a story about a recent dream they had or have children practice writing list (grocery list, to do list, or a packing list)

Math Activities: Students to take a survey of family and friends on their favorite cookie and make a bar graph to display the results. 

Science Activities:Students could plant a flower and discuss what a seed needs to grow and record the seed progress.

Students could compare and contrast frogs and toads on a Venn Diagram.

Opal and her father move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket and comes out with a dog, she names Winn-Dixie. Because of Winn-Dixie, the preacher tells Opal ten things about her absent mother, one for each year Opal has been alive. Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone Opal has ever known, and together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block,t Gloria Dump, who is nearly blind but sees with her heart, and Otis, an ex-con who sets the animals in his pet shop loose after hours. Opal spends the summer collecting stories about her new friends and thinking about her mother.

An activity to go along with this book for practicing writing skills could include journal entries such as:

• A time when you felt especially lonely
• • Describe your local public or school library.  What does it look like?  What’s good about it?  What’s bad?
  • • Your biggest sadness
    • This activity will help students make text to self connections.

This book was my first favorite book during elementary school. Laura Ingalls and her family are heading to Kansas. Leaving behind their home in the Big Woods of Wisconsin, they travel by covered wagon until they find the perfect spot to build a little house on the prairie. The family must soon get to work, farming and hunting and gathering food for themselves and for their livestock. Along with the new adventures in the land it also has it dangers, from wolves to Indians. Will the Ingalls move from this land too? This book could be used while discussing pioneers or about traveling on a wagon train. A great activity for this book would be a Lapbook. A file folder is folded and turned into a book with a cover that can be decorated with a picture that describes the book. On the inside of the file folder, it includes information from the book. Including the characters, conflicts, the climax, how the conflict was resolved, and new unknown vocabulary words.
