A comprehension activity for this book could be a sequencing activity. Students can either write their answers or be allowed to use pictures to place the events in sequential order. Students could use write their own version of the story based on what they would swallow during Halloween to practice their writing skills. This book could be used as an introduction for a science study about bats.

This is a great book to read before Thanksgiving break to start a discussion on how everyone will celebrate Thanksgiving. A few activities to use after reading the book includes a sequencing events activity for the students to show comprehension and understanding of the story, practicing with syllables with the words that she swallowed, and placing the items she swallowed in alphabetical order.

This book would be great to use in a kindergarten classroom. This book could be used to introduce the alphabet or alphabetical order. After the story is read a letter recognition activity can be introduced to students as group work or a literacy center. The students are given a mixture of upper and lower case letters and the students have to separate the upper and lower case letters and place them in alphabetical order. Students can also pair the matching upper and lower case letters together.
